VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Lorna Olson will speak on "Growing Up in the 1940s and 1950s" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Barnes County Museum in Valley City. The program is part of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 26. Olson spent her first 14 years as a farm girl, mostly in Griggs and Stutsman counties, with several moves during those years, she said. The last years of the 1950s were spent in Northfield, Minnesota. Olson will share memories of school, home life, medical home remedies, food, farming practices, family hardships and more. Olson was born in 1941 and grew up during World War II. She attended Courtenay (North Dakota) Elementary School, Northfield High School, and then Valley City State Teachers College and Dickinson State College. She married Dennis Olson from Litchville in 1960. She worked various jobs and retired in 2002.
